Dallas Teacher Sentenced to Probation for Forcing Student to Perform Sex Act

DALLAS, TEXAS – Philon Deberry, 45, a former Dallas Independent School District teacher and coach was sentenced to 10 years probation following a 2012 incident involving a 17-year-old girl. According to prosecutors, Deberry lured the girl into a locker room and forced her to perform a sex act. The victim reported the incident to authorities the following year when Deberry was on leave for an unrelated incident. Deberry pleaded guilty to an improper relationship with a student. If he completes the probation successfully, Deberry will avoid a formal conviction. He will also have to register as a sex offender as part of his plea deal.
